IMAP

Internet Message Access Protocol is a protocol for accessing email from a local server. It works in much the same way as POP3, but allows users to see information about the email (such as subject and sender) without downloading the mail to the local client.

IMAP also allows users to create and manipulate folders on the server itself, which is useful for further customization of mail-handling capabilities.
